The Ombudsman against Discrimination on grounds of Sexual Orientation has ceased to exist. On 1 January 2009 the Ombudsman was merged with the other Ombudsmen against discrimination into a new body: the Swedish Equality Ombudsman. The previously existing acts against discrimination were also replaced with a new Discrimination Act. Some of the material on this website may therefore be out of date. Child Custody Molestation A woman lodged a complaint with HomO. The main points were as follows. Her former mother-in-law repeatedly refused to allow her to have contact with her daughter, who was living with her father. The mother-in-law had told her daughter that her mother was lesbian and that therefore she could not meet her. The mother-in-law made negative comments in her daughters presence about her homosexual orientation when they met on the street. In addition, the mother-in-law had telephoned and harassed the woman in her home. HomO instructed the woman to provide certain supplementary details which the Ombudsman considered to be required in order to determine further handling of the case. She was informed, in this context, that the case might be resolved, even if supplementary information was not submitted within the specified period. Since no further response was received, HomO closed the case and decided that no further steps should be taken. (Decision of 15 May 2002, Dossier No. 135/02) |
