The Ombudsman against Discrimination on grounds of Sexual Orientation has ceased to exist. On 1 January 2009 the Ombudsman was merged with the other Ombudsmen against discrimination into a new body: the Swedish Equality Ombudsman. The previously existing acts against discrimination were also replaced with a new Discrimination Act. Some of the material on this website may therefore be out of date. Partnership – Registrar for civil partnership ceremonies – Municipality

Homo was informed that Vetlanda Municipality had previously had a registrar for civil partnership ceremonies, but that this was no longer the case. HomO decided to examine whether the Municipality’s decision that a registrar should no longer be appointed might be considered to be discrimination against persons with a homosexual or bisexual orientation. The Municipality stated that it did have a registrar for civil partnerships, and that information to the contrary was due to a misunderstanding. In view of this, HomO concluded that it could not be considered that there was any discrimination against homosexual or bisexual persons.
