The Ombudsman against Discrimination on grounds of Sexual Orientation has ceased to exist. On 1 January 2009 the Ombudsman was merged with the other Ombudsmen against discrimination into a new body: the Swedish Equality Ombudsman. The previously existing acts against discrimination were also replaced with a new Discrimination Act. Some of the material on this website may therefore be out of date. Insurance Beneficiaries Cohabitants Homos attention was drawn to the fact that when SPP issued pension insurance policies in SPP Liv Fondförsäkring AB, the information as to whether homosexual cohabitants could be listed as beneficiaries was inconsistent. As a result, HomO decided to examine whether the terms of the SPP Liv Fondförsäkring AB pension insurance policy, or the companys handling of customers when offering policies of this nature, discriminated against persons with a homosexual orientation. In its response, SPP stated that homosexual cohabitants may be named as beneficiaries for policies issued by both SPP Livförsäkring AB and SPP Liv Fondförsäkring AB. In view of this and the fact that SPP stated that it planned to take steps to ensure that customers did not receive incorrect information in this context in the future, HomO concluded that it could not be considered that discrimination against homosexual persons still applied.
