The Ombudsman against Discrimination on grounds of Sexual Orientation has ceased to exist. On 1 January 2009 the Ombudsman was merged with the other Ombudsmen against discrimination into a new body: the Swedish Equality Ombudsman. The previously existing acts against discrimination were also replaced with a new Discrimination Act. Some of the material on this website may therefore be out of date. Prison service – Harassment

Two women reported the management of the prison where they are serving sentences to HomO. In their complaint, the women stated, for example, that they had been subjected to harassment by another female inmate on repeated occasions, due to their homosexual orientation. Although they had reported this to the prison management, no action to prevent continued harassment had been taken. Since the women failed to submit certain supplementary information which HomO considered was required to determine further handling of the case within the time specified, HomO closed the case and decided that no further steps should be taken.
