The Ombudsman against Discrimination on grounds of Sexual Orientation has ceased to exist. On 1 January 2009 the Ombudsman was merged with the other Ombudsmen against discrimination into a new body: the Swedish Equality Ombudsman. The previously existing acts against discrimination were also replaced with a new Discrimination Act. Some of the material on this website may therefore be out of date. Higher education Student Trainee post A man lodged a complaint with HomO. The main points were as follows. While he was studying at the Stockholm Institute of Education and serving as a trainee teacher in a compulsory school in a suburban municipality in the Stockholm area, the acting principal of the school made negative comments about him on a number of occasions. The principal had said, for example, that she would not employ someone like him and that his personality did not set a good example to the pupils. In addition, she spread rumours about him and turned the staff against him, and her personnel policy led to a highly negative atmosphere in the school with regard to homosexuals. The Ombudsman instructed the man to provide supplementary information required by HomO for determining further handling of this case. Since nothing further was heard, HomO closed the case and no further action was taken. (Decision of 2 May 2002, Dossier No. 122/02) |
