The Ombudsman against Discrimination on grounds of Sexual Orientation has ceased to exist. On 1 January 2009 the Ombudsman was merged with the other Ombudsmen against discrimination into a new body: the Swedish Equality Ombudsman. The previously existing acts against discrimination were also replaced with a new Discrimination Act. Some of the material on this website may therefore be out of date. servicesA woman complained that when she turned to the Social Service in the city where she lived in order to apply for financial assistance, she could not fill in the necessary forms correctly since they did not take into account the existence of same-sex families. After the Ombudsman’s inquiry into the matter, the forms have been exchanged for others that have a gender neutral wording. The Ombudsman then closed the file as resolved.
