The Ombudsman against Discrimination on grounds of Sexual Orientation has ceased to exist. On 1 January 2009 the Ombudsman was merged with the other Ombudsmen against discrimination into a new body: the Swedish Equality Ombudsman. The previously existing acts against discrimination were also replaced with a new Discrimination Act. Some of the material on this website may therefore be out of date. Goods and Services – Registered Partnership – International relations

A Swedish man complained to the Ombudsman that he and his partner had been denied an opportunity to register their partnership in accordance with Swedish law at the Swedish Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand. The Ombudsman decided not to take any action since the issue regarding which embassies abroad will perform partnership registration depends on which host countries will allow such registrations to take place. It is therefore not within the power of the Swedish Embassy in Bangkok to decide the matter.
