The Ombudsman against Discrimination on grounds of Sexual Orientation has ceased to exist. On 1 January 2009 the Ombudsman was merged with the other Ombudsmen against discrimination into a new body: the Swedish Equality Ombudsman. The previously existing acts against discrimination were also replaced with a new Discrimination Act. Some of the material on this website may therefore be out of date. University – Students – Harassment A teacher student complained to the Ombudsman that she had suffered harassment from one of her teachers. She had made complaints to the university about it and was not satisfied with the actions taken as a result of her complaint. The Ombudsman came to the conclusion that the College had not fulfilled its obligations to investigate the matter. The College partly admitted that. After the Ombudsman had decided to take the College to court for damages, an out of court settlement was agreed according to which the student received 60 000 Swedish kronor (approximately 8 000 USD or 6 500 Euros, at the time of the settlement). The Ombudsman then closed the file. (Decision 4 October 2005, Dossier no. 475/04) |
