The Ombudsman against Discrimination on grounds of Sexual Orientation has ceased to exist. On 1 January 2009 the Ombudsman was merged with the other Ombudsmen against discrimination into a new body: the Swedish Equality Ombudsman. The previously existing acts against discrimination were also replaced with a new Discrimination Act. Some of the material on this website may therefore be out of date. Goods and Services – Social Services – Application Forms

After having received several complaints about the drafting and contents of different application forms within the City of Stockholm, e.g. regarding child care and social security, the Ombudsman decided to initiate an investigation. The Ombudsman found that the different forms used by the City’s different authorities were discriminatory with respect to sexual orientation since the assumed that all applicants lived in heterosexual families. The investigation resulted in the City Council ordering the drafting of new sexual orientation neutral application forms. The Ombudsman closed the file as settled.
