The Ombudsman against Discrimination on grounds of Sexual Orientation has ceased to exist. On 1 January 2009 the Ombudsman was merged with the other Ombudsmen against discrimination into a new body: the Swedish Equality Ombudsman. The previously existing acts against discrimination were also replaced with a new Discrimination Act. Some of the material on this website may therefore be out of date. Correctional Facility – Harassment from other Inmates

An inmate of the Correctional Facility of Tidaholm complained of the facility’s handling of a complaint he had made regarding harassments from other inmates. The only measure taken was to transfer him to another department of the facility. The O. found that there were conflicting opinions as to whether the inmate had actually informed the officers of the correctional facility of the sexual orientation nature of the harassments he had suffered and that further investigation was unlikely to lead to further clarity into that issue. However, the O. reiterated his earlier criticism of the general incapacity of correctional facilities to protect inmates from sexual orientation related harassment and violence.
