The Ombudsman against Discrimination on grounds of Sexual Orientation has ceased to exist. On 1 January 2009 the Ombudsman was merged with the other Ombudsmen against discrimination into a new body: the Swedish Equality Ombudsman. The previously existing acts against discrimination were also replaced with a new Discrimination Act. Some of the material on this website may therefore be out of date. Employment – dismissal – settlement

A woman complained that she had been dismissed from her job on grounds of her sexual orientation. The grounds for dismissal stated by the employer in a written notice included the fact that the woman had informed other staff members of her “sexuality”. According to the woman she had on one occasion at a conference told another member of staff that she was bisexual. Following consultations between the Ombudsman and the woman’s employer a settlement was reached. The settlement included the payment of 125 000 SEK (approximately 13 000 Euros or 20 000 US dollars) by the employer to the woman.
